Western Union’s long-rumored relationship with Ripple is turning out to be real.

After more than a month of speculation, the money transfer company’s chief financial officer said it’s evaluating blockchain technology and is testing transactions with Ripple, the San Francisco-based startup behind the cryptocurrency of the same name.

Efforts are in a “testing phase” and not a key part of the business, Western Union CFO Raj Agrawal said in an interview Tuesday with Bloomberg News. The company hasn’t found anything yet that would be a “big unlock,” he said.
